SOMALIA, Afgoye: In a photograph released by the African Union-United Nations Information Support Team 25 May, an African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) armoured tank patrols land to the west of Afgoye following an advance on the town, itself located to the west of the Somali capital Mogadishu. AMISOM and Somali National Army (SNA) troops swept through Afgoye without a shot being fired today, liberating the area and its population – including 400,000 internally displaced people – from the control of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated extremist group Al Shabaab.
AU-UN IST PHOTO STUART / PRICE.
